Highnoon drifts away in dreams on “Lens” from new album Semi Sweet
One of our newest discoveries from the Philly scene, Highnoon has been quietly releasing tunes on Soundcloud over the last two years. Now, songwriter Kennedy Freeman has announced the project’s debut album Semi Sweet, which will be released on August 2. Produced by Justin Roth of Soft Idiot, the album’s lead single “Lens” is out now. Over a bright guitar-pop melody, Freeman explores what its like when your perspective is clouded as they sing, “I know it’s not what I think / I’m awake but I’m drifting in dreams.”
Freeman is a member of Bad Apple Commune, a local collective dedicated to “creating art in service to black revolution.” The collective played its first show this spring, with each member showcasing their individual work, and wrote on Instagram that their purpose is to “create a radically inclusive space for minorities, specifically Black people, on the local art/music scene.”
Highnoon will celebrate the record release with a show in Philly on August 2. Find more information here. Listen to “Lens” below via Bandcamp and find it on all streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
