Pop-rock favorite Caroline Rose could have a fallback career as a comedian if the music thing gets boring. On the Marina Stage for day two of XPN Fest, Rose had the crowd laughing and dancing to her set, which included a preview of new material. Beginning with “Everybody’s Making Out,” Rose nearly decapitated her drummer after flicking a sandal straight into the air. Just a taste of what was to come, she continued on. The heat was no match for Rose, who came dressed in her signature red jacket, pair of fuzzy socks, and headband.

Her dance moves truly began to come out on “Jeannie Becomes a Mom,” where she and the band all jammed out. Rose extended the last chorus to further improvise on her dance moves at the edge of the stage. Next, Rose generously gave fans a sneak preview of a new tune called “Do You Think We’ll Last Forever” (“don’t say I never gave you anything,” she quipped) which ended right at about the middle point, careful not to spoil the entire thing. As they transitioned into “Money,” Rose brought out a kazoo to perform “a little something she’s been working on.” Turns out, it was a rendition of Aerosmith’s “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing,” and a brilliant one at that. Wasting no time, the band got back into “Money” and rocked it out.

The set never seemed to wind down even as the crew got to the end. Cracking more intermittent jokes, Rose threw her guitar behind her back and took to the keyboards to play “Bikini.” Closing strong with “Talk,” Rose took her last opportunity to jam out on the guitar, absolutely slaying it.
