The Kitchen, the new movie starring Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss, needed a song to drive home its themes of female empowerment and resilience. It makes sense that Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” is the song they picked to soundtrack the film’s trailer. It makes even more sense that they got The Highwomen to cover it specifically for the film.

The group, made up of Brandi CarlileNatalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires, give the song some extra oomph with their thrilling harmonies. In addition to teasing The Kitchen, “The Chain” also lets fans know what they can expect from The Highwomen’s upcoming album.

“The Chain” is just the third song The Highwomen have released, but they’ve already made a huge splash. Their first single, “Redesigning Women,” and its cameo-filled video were met with immediate praise. Earlier this week, the supergroup performed the single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. They also performed “Crowded Table”, the album’s second single, on the show. Their full self-titled album is due September 6th.

Though The Highwomen have yet to announce a full tour, two of its four members will play Philly this fall. Carlile will play The Mann with Mavis Staples on Friday, September 6th. The following day you can catch Maren Morris at The Met Philadelphia. Find tickets and information for both shows on the XPN Concert Calendar.
