Whitney releases third single from their forthcoming album, with a hometown-shot music video

Whitney has released the third single from their forthcoming album Forever Turned Around, due August 30th via Secretly Canadian. The song is called “Used to Be Lonely” and it follows “Valleys (My Love)” and “Giving Up”, both of which were released earlier this summer. The track comes with an official music video directed by Austin Vesely, who also did Chance the Rapper’s “Sunday Candy” music video and the horror movie Slice.

“Used to Be Lonely” has to be the lightest song out of the three from Forever Turned Around so far. I don’t think Julian Ehrlich’s vocals can get any higher. Through gentle strumming and signature Whitney horn arrangements, the song tells the narrative of someone who fumbles with the love they’ve found because they’re so used to feeling lonely. The video, filmed entirely in the band’s hometown of Chicago, features shots of the aforementioned love juxtaposed with similar shots where that love was once absent. Ehrlich and fellow frontman Max Kakacek are seen in the video too, playing the song on an electric and acoustic guitar respectively.
