Get into the trippy wizardry of Pulgas on “Largemarj”

In case #XPNStock made you hungry for more psychedelia this weekend, Pulgas have you covered. The experimental duo made up of Simon Martinez from Killiam Shakespeare and Zane Shields make foggy and spell-binding jams. Their latest track, “Largemarj,” is the first taste of the upcoming Or Best Offer EP and builds on their hazy and expansive catalog.

“Largemarj” starts soft and slow. Instruments are gently played and lyrics and delicately sung. About a minute in, things get hazier. Sound effects pop up and everything gets a touch louder. The song isn’t linear; it loops and twirls in your mind. Solos and ensemble playing spin around each other. Eventually, the song fades into nothingness. It is as if it never happened. In tricking your mind into thinking you’ve missed it, it forces you to listen again and again and again…

Or Best Offer is Pulgas’ second EP for Astro Nautico. Late last September, the band released More Like Us through the label. Its followup is due just under a year later, on September 13th.
