Soft Idiot revels in minimalist simplicity on the new byrrie EP
Soft Idiot‘s latest release is a testament to letting go of plans and perfectionism. The five short songs on the new byrrie EP come together with a seeming effortlessness; their hazy folk sound revels in its own simplicity. Songwriter Justin Roth writes on Facebook, “i found myself stuck in a loop of overthinking the production of this record, so i recorded it into my phone one morning before work.” He makes it sound easy, but the lo-fi recordings only highlight the solid foundation Roth builds with the songs’ vivid lyrics that read like poetry.

Soft Idiot has a show at Ortlieb’s on September 1 with Dead Neighbors and All Boy/All Girl; find more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
