Free at Noon Flashback: G. Love’s got The Juice for a World Cafe Live acoustic set
G. Love stopped by his hometown of Philadelphia to kick off today’s Free at Noon with a solo set. The Juice, his new album with his band Special Sauce, was produced by Keb’ Mo’ and will be released January 17 on his own Philadelphonic label.
In his six-song set, G. Love showed us what he’s been up to since his last record, setting his new songs to harmonica and acoustic guitar. Equally inspired by folk, blues, R&B and rap, G. Love’s music has been described as a “musical melting pot,” and the topics he sang about today ranged from drinking wine to his life with his family in Boston. He closed the set with The Juice‘s title track, which features Marcus King on the album version. It’s a call to action that combines the lighthearted tone of G. Love’s music with the message of how important it is to stand up for what you believe in.
G. Love & Special Sauce performs at Parx Casino Xcite Center on January 9. Find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
