Gladie will release its debut record Safe Sins on Lame-O Records next month
After a couple years building its name in the regional DIY scene, Philly duo Gladie will release its debut album Safe Sins this winter on Lame-O Records. The duo of co-songwriters Augusta Koch (Cayetana) and Matt Schimelfenig (Three Man Cannon) fuses their indie / punk songwriting with drum loops and electronic pop textures, and on the new single, “A Place Far Different,” those elements are more in balance than ever.
“This song is about feeling trapped by your own limitations and trying desperately to escape them,” Koch says in a press statement, elaborating that Safe Sins as a whole is a collection of songs about processing grief, and how there is no prescribed way to do that.
“It’s representative of the stages that you go through when you’re grieving, but also how most people don’t move from one stage straight to the next one,” she says. “We wanted to showcase the full range that someone could feel about a particular loss, and how these phases can go in circles and change. One day, you could experience all of those things and come up with some type of closure, but then the next day feel differently. There’s never really a clean conclusion.”
Take a listen to “A Place Far Different” and check out Safe Sins’ cover art and track listing down below, along with Gladie’s spring tour dates. They’ll wrap up their U.S. run with an April 10th concert at Boot and Saddle, and you can find tickets and more information on the show at the XPN Concert Calendar.
