Soccer Mommy is back with new album color theory this winter
Soccer Mommy, the project of singer-songwriter Sophie Allison, just announced that their new album color theory will be released February 28 on Loma Vista Recordings. The lead single “circle the drain” is out now, along with its accompanying video directed by Atiba Jefferson.
For Allison, the new album is a work of catharsis that sees her exploring struggles with mental health and personal hardships. The songwriter uses three colors as the album’s central themes: blue represents sadness and depression, yellow symbolizes physical and emotional illness, and gray represents darkness, emptiness, and loss.
“I wanted the experience of listening to color theory to feel like finding a dusty old cassette tape that has become messed up over time, because that’s what this album is: an expression of all the things that have slowly degraded me personally,” Allison says. “The production warps, the guitar solos occasionally glitch, the melodies can be poppy and deceptively cheerful. To me, it sounds like the music of my childhood distressed and, in some instances, decaying.”
Pre-order the record here. Back in the fall Soccer Mommy announced a spring tour that includes a show at Union Transfer on March 31 with Tomberlin. Find more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
