Margaret Glaspy announces new record Devotion, shares “Killing What Keeps Us Alive”
After her debut album Emotions and Math was released in 2016, Margaret Glaspy wanted to experiment with a new musical direction. Devotion, her just-announced sophomore record, sees the singer-songwriter exploring ways of making music she wasn’t previously familiar with. The record will be released March 27 via ATO, and its lead single “Killing What Keeps Us Alive” is out now.
The track is accompanied by a video in which the landscape slowly turns from black and white to bright intense color as Glaspy sings, over and over, “we keep living like we’ll never die, and we keep killing what keeps us alive.” Listen below.
Glaspy worked with producer Tyler Chester to incorporate more electronic elements into her sound, manipulating her vocals and using synths and electronic drums as well as tools like MIDI and Ableton. “It’s about letting love in even when you don’t know what will happen when you do,” Glaspy says of Devotion. “It’s about devoting your heart to someone or something, against all odds.” Pre-order Devotion here.
Margaret Glaspy also announced a spring tour that will bring her to Underground Arts on April 16. Tickets are on sale now; find more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
