Overwinter warms up for next album with MVGESTI EP and a virtual rave
Philly singer-songwriter, beatmaker, and soundscaper Francis Ponton has been making captivating music as Overwinter for the past few years, and this year releases his full-length debut via Good How are You Records.
The Francis Winter LP drops on April 17th, but in the weeks leading up to it, Overwinter dropped a free project called MVGESTI, a loose collection of beats, sounds, and melodies to whet our collective appetites.
The short, sweet EP puts Overwinter’s range and musical taste on full display — from the pulsing, pensive synthesizer atmospheres on the opening “Ascension,” to the ominous trap tones of the title track, and the party-rocking prowess of remixes that cover the gamut from disco (Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive”) to soul (Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin'”) to jazz (Wes Montgomery’s “Four on Six”).
With the album release on the horizon, Overwinter is presenting a DJ set live on Twitch this Saturday, April 11th. THIS RAVE IS VIRAL: A Quarantine Stream kicks off at 9:30 p.m., and Ponton writes that he’s “going to be touching back in with my old DJ days and dropping some sweet jungle.” More information can be found here; listen to MVGESTI below.
