Listen to David Dye and Ian Zolitor’s tributes to Gene Shay on WXPN

The late Gene Shay was a hero and mentor to many across generations, and in particular to two hosts here at WXPN. The longtime Folk DJ in Philadelphia passed away this week, and was remembered in moving posts by David Dye (host of Dave’s World and former host of World Cafe) and by Ian Zolitor (host of the WXPN Folk Show).

Both Dye and Zolitor used their Sunday shows on WXPN to offer up tributes to Shay on the airwaves. Dye took the first hour of Dave’s World to re-create approximately the sort of program Shay would host on the air in the 60s (and Dye would listen to from his home in the suburbs), while Zolitor offered up an array of songs from many of Gene’s favorite artists, from the early days to present day.
