Japanese Breakfast’s Craig Hendrix releases the first entry in his Piano Meditations series
Last Friday, Craig Hendrix (aka C. Hundreds), released a piano instrumental track called “Under The Blankets, Steeping The Day’s Leaves Into Tea”. On Instagram, he described the piece as “the first of [his] quarantine piano meditations”. A descending motif moves the tranquil ballad through a series of somber key modulations, while the lo-fi recording quality amplifies Hendrix’s breaths and gentle movements around the piano. The resulting soundscape is incredibly intimate and warm: the perfect accompaniment to a chilly Philly morning.
Despite the relative tedium of quarantine, life is as stressful as ever. It’s nice to have music that encourages us to take a step back and quietly reflect on the little things that still spark joy, like the comfort of warm blankets and a fresh cup of tea.
The piece is available on BandCamp under a “pay-what-you-want” price. Additionally, make sure to listen to Hendrix’s work with Japanese Breakfast here.
