Liz Longley’s Funeral For My Past will be released in September
Liz Longley has announced plans to release her new album, Funeral For My Past. Out September 18, this will be the Nashville-via-Philly singer-songwriter’s first independent release since splitting with her former label.
Funeral For My Past is Longley’s seventh album and her most ambitious project yet — especially considering the added financial hurdle having to buy back the rights to her own songs. But her dedicated fans showed up to help make it happen. Longley raised over $150,000 — more than triple her original goal — in a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, making her the fourth most-funded solo female musician on the site.
“Funeral For My Past,” Longley shares in a press release, “That title has taken on a new meaning for me because when I made this record I was really excited for the future, and that all fell apart. So my past started to include this process of having to move on from that chapter and grow from it and become an independent artist again.”
The album’s title track is out now, the latest in the series of early singles Longley has been sharing ahead of the release. Her classic Americana and gospel influences shine in the song, which captures the album’s themes of letting go and starting over even stronger — Longley calls it an “invitation to let go of the pieces of your past that no longer serve you.” Listen below and pre-order Funeral For My Past here.
Like countless other artists, Longley has been forced to postpone many of her upcoming tour dates, but she’s been finding creative ways to connect with fans. Look for information on her livestream performances on her Facebook page.
