Rebecca Zimmerman releases mental health anthem with “Dear Body,”
Local singer-songwriter Rebecca Zimmerman released a piercing new single “Dear Body,” in collaboration with Brian Walker of alternative rock project A Day Without Love.
Though the song seems to be loud and rageful at its first listen, the lyrics begin to seep out more once the track is played an additional time. Underneath Zimmerman’s sharp vocals and A Day Without Love’s Brian Walker’s scratchy lead guitar, a battle between a person and their body emerges–– the tune’s prime message.
The three-minute track is an anthem for anyone struggling with mental health issues, as Zimmermann screams the lyrics “I’m fighting with you, I’m fighting for you, how is this gonna end?” A question that sticks in the minds of those battling against their exterior selves for survival.
According to Zimmerman’s email bio, she “blends elements of rock, folk, and blues to produce a style that is genuinely raw.”
On an Instagram post announcing the track’s release, Zimmerman stated that if one chose to support the song, all funds would be donated to Black Lives Matter Global Network.
“Dear Body,” dropped last Friday via goodhowareyou records. Zimmerman told XPN in an email that the tune is a single collab with A Day Without Love but it is “definitely possible [they] will be working on other tracks together in the future.”
