The Dawn Drapes show disjointed, uncomfortable “Facts” in new video
Local psychedelic rock outfit The Dawn Drapes recently released their first new single and video of 2020, “Facts.”
The song was written in 2016, based around the then-new term “alternative facts,” a theme reflected in the lyrics and video. The video, shot in black and white, depicts news clips of contemporary pundits, interspersed with footage of medical and psychiatric procedures, stitched together with purposely-unsettling cuts. Meanwhile, vocalists Daniel Rice and Michael Sanzo harmonize “Your facts or my facts?” over disjointed guitar, creating a sense of chaos and unease.
Sanzo says of the song, “‘Facts’ is a tune that definitely matured and fine tuned itself over time. Despite being our newest release, we have had it in our live set in some capacity since 2016. The general theme of the song is meant to be a satirical take on the news cycle and general attitude towards truth in our modern society. I think that when you lose a sense of objective truth that everyone can agree on, you end up with chaos. I wanted this track and this song to capture some of that chaos.”
