Singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews uses experimental elements of country and folk to create the new, emotional, and bittersweet single “How You Get Hurt.” The track is the fourth single to be released from Andrews’ upcoming album, Old Flowers, due out on July 24th via Fat Possum Records. Ahead of the single, Andrews released “Burlap String,” “If I Told” and “It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault,” respectively.

“How You Get Hurt” is one of ten songs from Andrews’ new album chronicling her experiences of loneliness and recovering from heartbreak. The bluesy single allows the listener to imagine the story of the song’s couple or reminisce about their own past heartaches. It is a perfect track to add to a playlist for late-night melancholy.

Andrews shares, “Old Flowers is about heartbreak. There are a million records and songs about that, but I did not lie when writing these songs. This album is about loving and caring for the person you know you can’t be with. It’s about being afraid to be vulnerable after you’ve been hurt. It’s about a woman who is alone, but okay with that, if it means truth. This was my truth this year—my nine-year relationship ended and I’m a woman alone in the world, but happy to know herself.”
