Riverby’s “Smart Mouth” is viciously delightful
Last month, local alternative rock band Riverby announced their upcoming debut album, Smart Mouth. Today, a week before the album’s release, the band put out the title track.
“Smart Mouth” is a hard-driving rock track about a destructive relationship. Vocalist Sophia Greenberg outright snarls lines like “I can see your smile, this might take a while / Just give me a chance and I’ll rip your heart out,” while instrumentalists Tyler Asay, Doug Keller, and Dan Nazaria thrash and shred behind them.
Riverby’s upcoming album is “a testament to what can happen when you move with, not away from, life’s ups and downs. You might enjoy the ride.” The title track is a heavy-sounding example of that. Unlike previous track “The Tell Tale Heart,” a letter to Greenberg’s past self, “Smart Mouth” is set staunchly in the present, taking listeners along for the chaotic ride.
Listen to “Smart Mouth” below, and pick it up for Bandcamp’s fee-free Friday.
