XPN’s weekly Thursday evening Live and Local Instagram concert series continues on July 9th with sets from four Philadelphia-regional artists; blues/rock guitarist Greg Sover, atmospheric singer-songwriter Lia Menaker, rapper Kuf Knotz backed by Christine Elise, and indie-folk duo Love? Said The Commander.

Sover has wowed local audiences in recent years with his records Songs of A Renegade and Jubilee. This year, he’ll release his latest project, Parade, which includes his cover of “Politician” by Cream.

Menaker has appeared on our radar more recently by comparison, building up a name in the pre-quarantine open mic circuit in Manayunk and releasing a stunning EP called I Am Kyrøs last month that called to mind Portishead and Amy Winehouse.

Kuf Knotz has been a force on the Philly scene for decades, going back to his time in the local hip-hop collective Burndown Allstars. Lately, he’s embarked on a dream-like rap-classical collab with Elise, a singer and harpist.

Love? Said the Commander caught our ear last summer during World Cafe Live’s Beta Hi-Fi competition with a minimal, yet powerful mix of resonant acoustic guitar, violin, and folk harmonies. Their debut EP A Million Miles Away came out last summer, and new music (including the single “Misery”) is on the way for 2020.

The show takes place Thursday, July 9th, at 6 p.m. ET on the station’s Instagram Live, at @wxpnfm. Listen to music from each of the performers below.
