Atmospheric sound artists Soundwalk Collective and poet Patti Smith released their newest single “Knowledge of Self” from their forthcoming collaborative album Peradam via Bella Union, arriving on September 4th.

In addition to the new track, the group dropped a psychedelic black and white music video to accompany the harmonious tune.

Peradam is inspired by René Daumal’s 1940s novel Mount Analogue: a Novel of Symbolically Authentic Non-Euclidean Adventures in Mountain Climbing, a chronicle of the French poet and novelist’s “metaphysical journey to ‘the ultimate symbolic mountain’,” according to a press release.

“We have to, in order to be free of all of the things that we are attached to, even ideas of ourselves, or masks that we put on or Band-Aid’s upon our transgressions, in order to achieve this freedom, we have to peel away everything, every defense we have, every defense that we put up for ourselves,” Patti Smith says of the track.

Sidewalk Collective collected sounds for the album while traveling Nanda Devi in the Himalayas. The group’s Stephan Crasneanscki says “Through our physical travels, we discovered the most humble objects of meaning that carry the spirit of what he searched for and found. It can be as simple as a stone, which can inhabit a power almost like a talisman.”

“Knowledge of Self” is available on all major streaming platforms. Check out the music video for the track below.
