The Dead Milkmen releasing “Fascist Groove Thang” 7″ to benefit Girls Rock Philly
Philly favorites The Dead Milkmen announced an upcoming vinyl release today, titled “Fascist Groove Thang.” All proceeds from the seven-inch record will go towards Girls Rock Philly.
The A-side of the new Milkmen record is a cover of Heaven 17’s 1981 track “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang,” which the band has been playing live since the 2016 election, with slightly altered lyrics to reflect contemporary politics. The B-side is an original track, “A Complicated Faith.”
“Fascist Groove Thang” is part of the Giving Groove, a label that donates all profits to a music-related charity of the artists’ choice. The Dead Milkmen chose Girls Rock Philly, a group “dedicated to building an intergenerational community of girls, women and trans and gender non-conforming people” through “fearless expression, artistic experimentation, and collaboration.”
A limited release of 500 transparent red copies of “Fascist Groove Thang” will ship on August 21. Pre-order the 7″ here. Listen to Heaven 17’s original version of the song below alongside Dead Milkmen’s cover.
