Secret American releases breezy summer anthem, “What Is Promise?”
Everything about Secret American’s new single “What Is Promise?” is straight out of the 1960s. From the first second, the twangy guitars, consistent conga, and a touch of brass transport listeners to a beach resort’s end-of-the-summer talent show.
The summer anthem, with the vocal stylings if the voices of Annette Funicello and Stevie Nicks meshed together, is the third track from the group’s forthcoming album, Heavy Feels.
According to the bicoastal band’s Instagram, the track really was written “by the beach in California” just to be mixed in Philadelphia’s Cambridge Sound Studios.
The band also acknowledges it has been a “struggle to feel comfortable promoting ourselves when so many other more important things are happening.”
With the release of the track, the band encourages their listeners to “register to vote, wear a mask, social distance, research current events & donate to worthy causes if you can! Have uncomfortable conversations when you need to and remember to treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve. Don’t take life for granted and remember to tell your family & friends you love them.”
Heavy Feels will be released on September 25th. All singles, including “What Is Promise?”, “Here Comes a Man,” and “Heavy Feels” are available on multiple streaming platforms.
