Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell cover “Cryin” with Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford
As accomplished singer-songwriters who just so happen to be married to one another, Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell have been quite busy with quarantine live streams. They chat, play a few songs, and invite some friends into their Nashville home — like Aerosmith‘s Brad Whitford, who joined Shires’ I So Lounging series for a cover of “Cryin'”.
Early in quarantine, most of Isbell and Shires’ streams were to promote Reunions, Isbell’s new album with his band The 400 Unit. Recently, however, the couple restarted I So Lounging as a looser concept, performing covers with friend and former Gregg Allmann keyboardist Peter Levin. Previous covers included Bon Iver’s “Beth/Rest” and Derek And The Dominos’ “Layla.”
The most recent stream featured a special guest, identified only as “our neighbor Brad.” That neighbor turned out to be Whitford, who joins the others on renditions of blues standards “Baby What You Want Me To Do” and “You Gotta Move,” as well as Aerosmith’s 1993 power ballad, “Cryin’.” In addition to the songs, all four musicians chat about Aerosmith, quarantine, and more.
