Connecticut-based Funnybone Records to release benefit comp featuring Luke Ellingson, Mal Devisa, Lady Lamb and more
Hartford, Connecticut-based label Funnybone is releasing a compilation album featuring a variety of artists on their roster, including a brand new track by Philly native Luke Ellingson, “Prepared to be Bored.” It’s a rowdy noise-pop track, featuring soft vocals by Daniprobably that contrast the distorted, unhinged walls of guitar noise. Although the compilation — which also features emotive New England singer-songwriter Mal Devisa and experimental artist Lady Lamb — is set to release on September 15th, it’s available for pre-order on the label’s Bandcamp.
Proceeds from the compilation will be donated to a variety of national and local Black and queer activist groups, including the National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network, Loveland’s Therapy Fund for Black Women and Girls, as well as Kamora’s Cultural Corner. “Our platform is a privilege that we are grateful to have built and developed with you these past three years,” the label said, “and we will continue to consciously use it to support the communities that enable and inspire us.“
Four out of the compilation’s 24 tracks have been streaming since Bandcamp Friday: Figurine’s “Needing,” Zanders’ “Wholeheartedly,” Bebé Machete’s “Blueprint,” and Crag Mask’s “Weaver // Pacer.” “Needing” is a melancholic — almost mournful — ode, led by Figurine’s beautiful vocals, a modified trap beat, and quiet synth chords, while Zanders’ and Bebé Machete’s tracks are delightfully quirky, carried by eccentric drum patterns and eclectic chords. “Weaver // Pacer” bounces by with a funky flair, before switching opting for a dreamy, washed-out palette through the second half of the track.
