In light of October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a collective of Philly musicians have put together a charity album called Compilation of Love. All of the album’s proceeds will go to Women Against Abuse, a Philadelphia nonprofit advocacy group that provides quality and nonjudgmental services to persons experiencing intimate partner violence.

For the special project, Ian Farmer of Slaughter Beach, Dog, and Modern Baseball teamed up with Out of Love podcast host Dan Casarella. The two prompted their musician friends to write a song responding to the word “love,” which resulted in 23 uniquely interpreted original love songs.

On his podcast, Cascarella explores different concepts of love through art, science, and storytelling so that he is better prepared to officiate his sister’s upcoming wedding. As part of the project, Cascarella will have interviews on Out of Love with musicians from the project to learn more about their songs. Additionally, a special episode will accompany the release of the album, where Cascarella will discuss donation allocations with Katie Young-Wildes, Senior Communications Specialist at Women Against Abuse.

Young-Wildes spoke to the project organizers about the importance of private support like that of Compilation of Love. “Much of our budget as a nonprofit is tied to specific grants and contracts, and that can make it really difficult when we need to be nimble when we need to and to things like COVID,” Young-Wildes explained. “That’s why private support is so crucial to our ability to be as effective as we can and to serve the people that are counting on us.”

The tracks on Compilation of Love are each unique, with artists’ muses including romantic partners, loved ones, sports teams, and more. Of the featured contributions, some notable highlights include the first solo track from Big Nothing’s Liz Parsons, Couplet’s debut track featuring members of You Blew It! and Into It. Over It., a demo from Thin Lips, and a duet from Anika Pyle and Roger Harvey.
