Sad13, Mannequin Pussy, Riverby, Eric Slick, and more will appear on a Rilo Kiley tribute album
One of the most beloved independent rock bands of the early 00s is having a moment in the 2020s. Rilo Kiley, the Los Angeles four-piece led by singer-songwriters Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett, just today released a digital edition of its rare self-titled 1999 album. This follows Lewis’ very well-received fourth solo LP On The Line, released last year.
Now comes a tribute compilation, celebrating Rilo Kiley’s breakout third album The Execution of All Things and its attendant b-sides. Fourteen artists mostly hailing from the East Coast DIY scene — including a half dozen from Philadelphia — contribute to No Bad Words For The Coast Today: The Execution Of All Things Covers Comp, which releases November 6th on Bandcamp.
Sad13 leads the pack with a cover of “Paint’s Peeling,” streaming today; the set will also feature Gladie covering “The Good That Won’t Come Out,” Mannequin Pussy’s version of the title track, and Eric Slick doing the Sennett-penned “So Long.” From the b-sides and rarities end of the Execution-era, Riverby tackled “Emotional” and Anika Pyle covers “Glendora.”
The comp also features Diet Cig, Dump Him, Adult Mom, Lisa Prank, and more, and will benefit New York City transgender advocacy organization G.L.I.T.S. (Gays & Lesbians Living In A Transgender Society). Listen to Sad13’s “Paint’s Peeling” below and pre-order the comp here.
