Earlier this month, singer-songwriter Devon Gilfillian organized There’s An Election Going On, a livestreamed track-for-track performance of Marvin Gaye’s 1971 classic What’s Going On.

The tribute was undertaken with a massive roster of Gilfillian’s friends and peers — Grace Potter, Jason Isbell, and The Lone Bellow to name a few — and it benefited The Equity Alliance, a Tennessee non-profit that fights voter suppression and educates those in low-income communities about the voting process.

Following up on that momentum, not to mention the momentum of his January LP Black Hole Rainbow, Gilfillian will be releasing a studio album of him covering What’s Going On in full, joined by vocalists Jasmine Cephas Jones and Ruby Amanfu.

Due out next Thursday, October 22nd via Capitol Records, the album will donate 100% of proceeds from its vinyl sales — pre-order your copy here — to Gilfillian’s continued support of The Equity Alliance. He’s also participating in an online auction to support the organization, and you can check out the items up for bid here while you listen to his cover of “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)” below.
