NNAMDÏ shares a meditative cover of Anjimile’s “Baby No More”
Endlessly creative Chicago-based artist NNAMDÏ has returned with a cover of Anjimile’s “Baby No More.” The original version of the track, which arrived in September with Anjimile’s breathtakingly gorgeous Giver Taker, is a bouncy, soul-filled indie rock gem. Anjimile’s vocals carry a combination of Sufjan Steven’s airiness and Moses Sumney’s grit: somehow, the track is gritty and carefree; somber and joyous.
On the other hand, NNAMDÏ’s cover slows down the lively guitar strums and quirky dance beats to a meditative, piano-led ballad. It’s a stark contrast from NNAMDÏ’s last project, KRAZY KARL, which carried a bizarre, almost absurdist, tone. “Baby No More (NNAMDÏ’s Dream),” on the other hand, is stunningly heartfelt–a quality it shares with the original–but with a distinctly jazzy feel.
