We’re eleven days out from election day, and this week Philadelphia singer-songwriter Kurt Vile released a live video for the Team Joe Sings series, in support of the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

For the video, Vile performed in a practice space with his daughters, playing his song “Bassackwards,” and covering Neil Young’s “Heart Of Gold” and Gillian Welch’s “Back In Time.”

In an Instagram post, Vile says he performed for the series because “we need unity and compassion more than ever in our country and the world at large.” Of the covers, he writes:

I didn’t quite nail the vocal in “heart of gold” (there’s only one Neil Young !) but Delphine (age 8) sure slayed the drums (thanks @steezmeez for the drum lesson!) and Awilda (age 10) beautifully sang a @gillianwelchofficial number while I attempted to channel my best abstract David Rawlings. (full vid via link in bio.) These artists we respect to the utmost for the beauty they’ve gifted to the world in their music and activism. And I’m hopeful we can still channel that kind of beauty today and work hard at creating a safer and more just world tomorrow for the youth of today.
