Watch Riverby’s live performance on Left of the Dial Live!
Philly’s Riverby were the inaugural guests on the Left of the Dial podcast’s new livestream concert series this past Saturday. Even with drummer Dan Nazariohe sitting this set out, the performance was raw and intense, but also just a little bit sweet.
The power-pop / modern rock band makes use of every second, packing nine songs into the roughly 30-minute long set. They transition from song to song seamlessly, blending one into the next. Co-founder August Greenberg’s vocals are no less powerful and raw than usual, but some of the band’s harder songs like “Maybe” and “In My Dreams” are transformed into something slightly softer. Even the softer pieces, like “Echoes,” take on a unique tone in the intimate setting.
Most of the material performed comes from their debut album, Smart Mouth, there are some other songs thrown in, including a “secret cover” (spoiler alert: It’s a heart-breaking rendition of Kississippi’s “Around Your Room.”) From start to end, this is a wonderful performance, as expected of Riverby.
