Richard Thompson will discuss his new memoir with Wesley Stace at a virtual Free Library event
Richard Thompson will join the Free Library of Philadelphia on April 8 for a virtual conversation with musician/writer Wesley Stace. Thompson will discuss his new memoir, Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice 1967-1975, which comes out next month.
Beeswing finds Thompson looking back at his early years, when he formed Fairport Convention and helped shape the British folk rock sound. According to Workman Publishing, “Beeswing vividly captures the life of a remarkable artist during a period of creative intensity in a world on the cusp of change.”
Thompson was only 18 when he formed Fairport Convention with schoolmates in his hometown of London. The pivotal years he revisits in the book saw the band touring the UK and the US and crossing paths with legends like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Jimi Hendrix before Thompson left to form a duo act with his then-wife, Linda. He also writes of how his discovery of Sufism reshaped his approach to music and life.
