St. Vincent released the next single from her upcoming album, Daddy’s Home, just days before her SNL performance.

As Annie Clark explained in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, “Melting of the Sun” is about women who were treated poorly by the entertainment industry. “People tried to quiet them when they were saying something that was righteous or true or hard to hear.” She makes reference to various female artists and their songs, including Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam” and Joni Mitchell’s “Furry Sings the Blues.”

The track goes full-throttle on the 70s inspired sound that Clark previously promised. It’s a bit psychedelic, with its sliding guitar and easy groove. The lyric video for “The Melting of the Sun” has a similarly vintage, trippy look to it. You can check it out below.
