PRESS PLAY: 8 New Albums out April 9th!
Collaboration, reclamation, celebration: this week’s batch of new albums has it all. At the top, acclaimed folklorist Rhiannon Giddens teams up with her partner, multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, for They’re Calling Me Home. The collection showcases each artist’s omnivorous approach to traditional music styles of both America and Italy. We’ve been spinning new songs from Parker Millsap on the air; the Oklahoma-based songwriter’s fifth album, Be Here Instead, is out this week. Philadelphia’s Spirit of the Beehive make their debut on Saddle Creek with ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH, the genre-defying group’s fourth release overall. Classic rock fans know Merry Clayton for her fiery collaboration with The Rolling Stones, and she makes her return to gospel music this week with Beautiful Scars. California-based revival rocker Nick Waterhouse‘s Promenade Blue is an ambitious collection co-produced by Paul Butler of psych oddballs A Band of Bees. Matthew E. White pulls out all the stops for Broken Mirror: A Selfie Reflection, a lush collaboration with iconoclastic sculptor Lonnie Holley. A mainstay of San Francisco’s indie and experimental scene, Glenn Donaldson re-emerges with Uncommon Weather, his first album as leader of The Reds, Pinks & Purples. Finally, Montreal producer Mike Silver’s latest release as CFCF, memoryland, is an inventive take on late-’90s/early ’00s electronic rhythms. PRESS PLAY on these new releases (and more) below…
