Philly’s Body Meat gives a glimpse into the electronic world of Year of The Orc EP on Fader’s “Patch Notes”
Following his recent project Year of The Orc EP Philadelphia multi-instrumentalist Christopher Taylor, who performs under the name Body Meat, brought his unique sound to a live performance on Fader’s “Patch Notes.”
For this video, Taylor showcases his refreshing blend of rhythm and vocals that transcend any limits of genre. His performance on “Patch Notes” is a subtle glimpse into the creative process of his experimental sound, one that blends the broad influences of African club sounds, as well as specific inspirations like Chicago drill duo Sicko Mobb and Philly R&B icons Boyz II Men.
While not directly adjacent to the sounds of “PC Music,” a term that encompasses the sounds of hyper-pop and glitch-pop, Year of The Orc EP draws on elements of the newer subset to create a world of its own, slowly yet captivatingly building an electronic soundscape that centers around shaking synths and a jolting drum kit. The project is unique across all of its areas, from the production that doesn’t quite park itself in one genre, to Taylor’s vocals that distortedly blend into the instrumentals and become clearer when appropriate. On the project’s closing track “Ghost,” Taylor’s vocals take all of these forms, serving as an instrument alongside the electronic soundscape and also coming to the forefront in a distinct and more vulnerable form.
During his performance on “Patch Notes,” Taylor pulls viewers into his electronic realm, creating a fixation on the elaborate instrumental process and the urge push the limits of pop music.
