If you’re a regular listener to Serious Rap Shit — the hip-hop and beyond podcast co-founded by The Key’s John Morrison — you’ve heard them talking extensively about Another Word For Paradise, the documentary series focusing on the hip-hop scene in India. Today, part one of the series has debuted on Vevo.
Featuring New York / Philly rapper Lushlife and Serious Rap Shit podcast hosts Josh Leidy and John Morrison, Another Word For Paradise will focus on three cities in India and their music scenes: Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi.
In the trailer narrated by Lushlife, he explains the complexity of his Indian heritage intersecting with his artistic work, “Since I was a youth, I always felt caught up between two worlds: my life as a rapper and my immigrant upbringing.” The documentary, directed by Siddharth Pal and edited by Leidy, was shot on a 2018 tour Lushlife took of India, and the footage shows an exploration of vibrant hip-hop culture through rappers, dancers, sneakerheads, and more.
