Slingshot Dakota’s latest pop-punk epic breaks free of stagnation and nods to Willy Wonka’s “Pure Imagination”
On their latest track “Hold On To Why” Slingshot Dakota delivers a six-minute-long headbanger about the need for escape.
The epic opens with a dreamy nod to Willy Wonka’s “Pure Imagination,” as singer / keys player Carly Comando sings “you and me need to take a vacation.” But it doesn’t stay tranquil for long, as Slingshot Dakota adds their own twist to create a punk-pop lullaby. Escapism and the urge to experience new things are at the center of the track’s theme, captivated by the dreamy keys and heavy drums that enter at the middle of the track.
The duo spoke about the track via Instagram:
“This Heavy B side is about feeling stagnant & wanting to change things the heck up. Although written for Heavy Banding, these lyrics definitely feel extra relatable regarding the past year: ‘I feel like I’m on repeat / There’s so much we haven’t seen / I don’t wanna die holding onto why.'”
