Shannen Moser gives a moving performance for Cemetery Tapes Sessions
Earlier this month, Shannen Moser sat down to perform two songs for the local series Cemetery Tapes Session. Recorded in her home, this performance finds Moser joined by Maxwell Stern on lap steel and Tyler Bussey on banjo, with both providing occasional harmonies as well.
The session is split into two separate videos. In the first, Moser performs an original song, “Oh My God.” The simplicity of the three-person performance lends itself to the emotionally-driven song, and gives Moser a chance to show off the sweet, agile nature of her singing.
In the second half of the session, she covers Songs: Ohia’s “Whip Poor Will.” This cover keeps all of the gentle nature of the song, but brings more movement to it with the introduction of a touch of bluegrass in the accompaniment.
You can check out Moser’s cover of “Whip Poor Will” below, and you revisit the rest of her work while you’re at it. Shannen Moser will join Slaughter Beach, Dog and Gladie at Union Transfer on September 11th, and tickets for the show go on sale Friday, April 30th at noon, more information can be found here.
