PRESS PLAY: 9 Albums out April 30th
On what is perhaps the busiest album release day of the year so far, this week’s PRESS PLAY arrives with no further ado. An invigorating reclamation of space for Black women in the world of electronic music, Dawn Richard makes her New Orleans-inspired Merge debut with Second Line: An Electro Revival. Also out on Merge this week, Scottish guitar-pop icons Teenage Fanclub return with Endless Arcade, another warm entry in their decades-long discography. Following a Grammy nomination for her most recent Pistol Annies album, Ashley Monroe returns with her fifth solo release, Rosegold. The latest from (former Philadelphia resident) Carsie Blanton, Love & Rage channels the spirit of protest music for the present moment. Alaskan musician Nicholas Galanin’s debut as Ya Tseen, Indian Yard, is an energetic and guest-packed exploration of Galanin’s Tlingit and Unangax̂ heritage. Returning for their first album since 2012, Bowerbirds present the intricate becalmyounglovers. Announced mere weeks ago, buzzy New York indie rockers Crumb‘s sophomore album Ice Melt is a moody and groove-driven collection. Best known for her long-running collaboration with her brother Angus, Australian singer Julia Stone‘s third solo album, Sixty Summers, features production by St. Vincent. The folks at Daptone Records expand their horizons with the release of LILA, the label debut of Moroccan expats Innov Gnawa. PRESS PLAY on these releases (and many, many more) below…
