Pakistani composer Arooj Aftab will play a show at World Cafe Live on Wednesday, October 20. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, the now Brooklyn-based artist’s unique sound is inspired by jazz, new age, and classical minimalism, as well as Sufi devotional poetry.

Last month Aftab released her third album, Vulture Prince, which serves as a second chapter to her 2015 debut, Bird Under Water. NPR included her composition “Lullaby” among their Greatest Songs By 21st Century Women+.

Vulture Prince is about revisiting places I’ve called mine,” says Aftab, “places that don’t necessarily exist anymore. It’s about people, friendships, relationships—some relationships that were unexpectedly short term, and how to deal with that.” Find the album on Bandcamp.
