Sun Ra Arkestra will play World Cafe Live’s anniversary show this fall
The legendary Sun Ra Arkestra will return to World Cafe Live this fall, just in time to celebrate the venue’s 17th birthday. The show had been scheduled for last July, and all tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for the new date of Saturday, October 2, 2021.
97-year-young alto saxophonist Marshall Allen currently leads the Arkestra, which was founded by Sun Ra in the mid-1950s. Allen is joined by more than a dozen other members, decked in their signature Ancient Egypt-inspired space capes, to push the limits of what jazz can do and bring the Arkestra’s Afro-Futurist vision to life.
Wilmington-based futurist group Urban Shaman Attack will open the show. Find tickets and more information here, and visit the venue’s website for COVID-19 updates as local guidelines evolve.
