The Cleveland-born indie-rock outfit Cloud Nothings recently announced a string of North American tour dates, and the band will be stopping in Philly on August 27 to play Underground Arts.

The tour is in support of their latest release, The Shadow I Remember, which was released in February via Carpark Records. The album marks eleven years of touring and sees the band take a back-to-basics approach. Not only do they return to some of their early songwriting processes, but they even revisited the studio that they recorded in for the first time together for its production. Their most mature and fully realized release yet, their longtime collaboration is evident in how effortless they sound.

While certain aspects have them returning to their roots, they still put out something that sounds fresh. The album sees them wrestle with self-doubt, existential angst, and ask questions like “is life too long? am I too late?” on “Oslo.” Their aggressive guitars and slamming percussion give them a tough exterior even as frontperson (and Philly resident) Dylan Bladi delivers strikingly vulnerable lyrics. Leaning into the wall of noise the band creates, he sings with an edge that at any moment could turn explosive.

Announcements for concerts at this point are subject to change due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Underground Arts does not have any COVID-specific information on their website yet, but keep an eye on their social media. Tickets for the tour went on sale Friday and can be purchased here.
