Pop icon Diana Ross returns this year with her 25th studio album, Thank You, a collection of songs about joy, unity, and love. The opening song and title track was released today, and it’s another timeless gem from the singer-songwriter whose career began over 60s years ago in The Supremes.
“Thank You” is a classic R&B / soul tune with a dreamy piano and xylophone melody on the intro and a funky disco bass-and-horn explosion on the celebratory refrain, where Ross sings “You’re the reason my world keeps turning.” It angles into various era of her career in three and a half minutes.
The album features Ross collaborating with a spectrum of contemporary songwriters and producers, from Jack Antonoff to Tayla Parx, and in a press release, she speaks of the album’s message of finding common ground with our fellow humans the world around.
“I dedicate this songbook of love to all of you, the listeners,” Ross says of Thank You. “As you hear my voice, you hear my heart. ‘Let Love Lead the Way.’”
Thank You will be released this fall via Decca / UMG. Listen to the title track below.
