Amos Lee returns with candid new single “Worry No More”
It seems like Amos Lee is psychic on his latest single, “Worry No More. Written prior to the pandemic, his frank lyrics about mental health and trying to find peace amongst all the uncertainty still resonates. Over the course of his career, Lee has been outspoken about mental health and how music has helped him cope with his anxiety. After he released his album, My New Moon, in 2018, which touched on those same topics, he made an appearance on the podcast 10% Happier with Dan Harris. The two talked openly about mental health and how music has helped Lee persevere.
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Christian “Leggy” Langdon, “Worry No More” is Lee’s first new song in almost four years. Starting out slow, the music swells as Lee mixes in finger snaps and layered vocals that build up into visceral rush of tranquility. It makes you actually believe that everything will eventually fall into place, promising “worry no more / there’s an open door for you” and giving the encouragement you need to push through.
“I have always loved the Bob Marley line ‘emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind.’” Lee said in a statement. “The song plays off of this idea. We can choose fear, worry, hatred, or-we can, at the very least, allow ourselves to let go and drift through the madness for a moment, like a ghost, or like a breath on the wings of a song.”
