PRESS PLAY: 8 New Albums out October 1st!
The dawn of a new month brings a bounty of new albums for October! Brandi Carlile‘s In These Silent Days is the long-awaited followup to the XPN favorite’s Grammy-winning By the Way, I Forgive You; as you’d expect, it packs an emotional wallop. The same can be said of In Heaven, the latest heart-wrenching set from Strand of Oaks. Their second full-length collaboration, Love for Sale finds Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett playfully making their way through the Cole Porter songbook. illuminati hotties began as a project for Sarah Tudzin to show off her prowess as an engineer and producer; the tracks on Let Me Do One More showcase those skills alongside blistering hooks and tender turns.
As its name implies, Half a Hundred Years is a collaborator-heavy milestone celebration from Western swing icons Asleep at the Wheel. Toronto’s Ducks Ltd. (fka Ducks Unlimited) offer up their charming debut, Modern Fiction. A pair of live recordings caught our attention this week: The Comeback Special is, true to its name, Matt Johnson’s first non-soundtrack release as The The in over 20 years. Recorded over three nights in in late 2014, The Daptone Super Soul Revue LIVE at the Apollo captures sets by some of the label’s immortal stars, including Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, and Naomi Shelton.
