Indie singer-songwriter Mitski has re-emerged from hiatus. After going mostly off the grid once her tour cycle for 2018’s acclaimed Be The Cowboy LP wrapped (save for a couple one-off soundtrack contributions), Mitski was back on Twitter yesterday with a teaser image that had her fans frantic with excitement. Today, we find out why: she has a new single called “Working for the Knife,” a music video to go with it, and a North American tour in spring of 2022 that comes to Philadelphia in March at Franklin Music Hall.

In a press release, Mitski describes the song — which follows the synthy direction heard on many of Be The Cowboy‘s highlights — by saying “It’s about going from being a kid with a dream, to a grown up with a job, and feeling that somewhere along the way you got left behind. It’s being confronted with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and seeing no way out of it.”

Watch the video directed by Zia Anger with Ashley Connor below, and check out Mitski’s tour dates; she comes to Franklin Music Hall on Friday, March 25th, tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
