Irreversible Entanglements release expansive new song “Keys To Creation”
Irreversible Entanglements calls into question everything you know about music. Sonically complex, they take the typical song structure and turn it on its head. Their new single, “Keys To Creation,” pushes you to reevaluate what music is, the creative process, and what it can be a vehicle for. The prog-jazz collective is fronted by Philly’s Camae Ayewa (of Moor Mother) and Keir Neuringer on sax, and will release their third album, Open The Gates, on November 12, 2021, via Don Giovanni Records and International Anthem.
According to a press release, “Keys To Creation” is Irreversible Entangelement’s first time in five years of recording that the band has delved into synthesizers and electric bass. The 13-minute epic starts chilling and on-edge with the synthesizers creating an eerie feeling of liminal space. Ayewa adds to the intensity with her poetry, which is spoken with such conviction it will give you goosebumps. After repeating “in this life some rain must fall,” the song begins to slowly taper off, transitioning from a raging storm to a slight drizzle.
Open The Gates was recorded in a single day at Rittenhouse Soundworks in January of 2021. Intentional about expanding their sonic palette, the band pushes the boundaries of what jazz, poetry, and music can be. You can stream the track below and pre-order the album here.
