Trek to the midwest and back in Chestnut Grove’s new video for “Newspaper Hats”
When the great reopening of the live music scene happened in the summer of 2021, Philly regional roots rockers Chestnut Grove wasted no time getting back out on the road. Their tour to Appleton, Wisconsin this August for the Mile of Music Festival was captured on 8mm by filmmaker friends Matt Connelly, Katie Harkins, and Eric Campbell, who edited the footage together and paired it with the band’s rambling rocker “Newspaper Hats” for a new music video, out today.
“We chose this style of video because we felt it matched the nostalgic / retro feeling the song touches upon,” the band shares over email. “The use of real film from old school Super 8 cameras add to that vintage feeling. It’s a feeling we really connected with, [and] shots of rural towns and cities like Chicago permeate the montage, giving it the hustle and bustle of what it’s like to be on tour with us.”
Watch below. Chestnut Grove has stayed close to home this fall, playing a residency of monthly gigs at 118 North in Wayne, which wraps up with a newly-announced show on New Year’s Day. Tickets and more information can be found here.
