Indie Rock Hit Parade (home-recorded) Session: Hatchie
Joining us for this home-recorded Indie Rock Hit Parade session is a group that’s preparing to release their long-awaited sophomore album. We were first introduced to Hatchie when Brisbane-based singer Harriette Pilbeam released the project’s debut EP, Sugar & Spice, in 2018. Later that same year, Hatchie visited our studio and made their World Cafe debut. A glittery full-length, Keepsake, arrived in 2019, and Hatchie are now poised to release the followup. Now finding a home on the Secretly Canadian label, Hatchie’s Giving the World Away arrives on April 22nd, 2022. From various home studios, the group convened virtually to record this IRHP session, which features some of the new album’s early highlights.
Hatchie’s session begins with a performance of the album’s latest single, “Quicksand,” an irresistible entry in their ever-growing catalog of dreamy pop gems. Next is “This Enchanted;” initially released as a standalone single, the anthemic tune also appears on the new record. Finally, Hatchie offers a live take on Jennifer Paige’s late ’90s nugget “Crush,” which Pilbeam had previously recorded for Secretly Canadian’s ongoing singles series.
