After a brief holiday weekend respite, the cogs of the album release machine are back in full swing (and then some). Virtuoso string band revivalists Old Crow Medicine Show return with the punchy Paint This Town. On their third LP, Skinty Fia, Irish rockers Fontaines D.C. explore their heritage as the relocate from Dublin to London. Bonnie Raitt’s first album in six years, Just Like That…, is a masterclass in timeless cool from the iconic guitarist and songwriter.
A pair of just-announced XPNFest artists have new releases this week: Philly collective Cosmic Guilt present their self-titled debut, and Taj Mahal teams up with Ry Cooder for a set of songs inspired by folk duo Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Elsewhere, Jason Pierce of Spiritualized beams in his latest opus, Everything Was Beautiful. Brisbane dream pop conjurers Hatchie return with Giving the World Away, their second full-length.
