Modern rock singer-songwriter Anthony Green returns this summer with a new album, Boom. Done., his sixth solo album, and first for Philly-based indie Born Losers records. It’s also his first to feature a full band — The High and Driving Band, anchored by Green’s longtime collaborators Keith Goodwin and Tim Arnold of Good Old War.
As Green’s music can often be, the two teaser songs from Boom. Done. are powerful and cathartic, in different ways — “Don’t Dance” in a more raw punk sort of aggression, and “Maybe This Will Be The One” stretching into post-rock expanses in the spirit of his primary band, Circa Survive. The range of moods contained in those songs reflects the album’s range of moods, according to a press release — much of the material on Boom. Done. was written in the wake of Green’s 2019’s drug overdose, and it finds him swinging between the despair of addiction to the fervent desire to keep living.
Watch the Bob Sweeney-directed video for “Don’t Dance” below — it finds Green in a skate park with his children — and take a listen to “Maybe This Will Be The One.” Boom. Done. is out July 22nd on Born Losers, and can be pre-ordered here. Anthony Green’s solo tour this spring with Tim Kasher of Cursive and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! comes to Union Transfer on May 5th; find tickets and details on the show at the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
